Our Education Programs
At Empowering Korean Immigrants (EKI), we are committed to supporting Korean immigrant families by providing accessible, high-quality educational programs for children and youth. Our programs are designed to foster language development, confidence, and a sense of belonging within the community.
We offer a variety of online, one-on-one and small group classes tailored to each student’s needs and level. Our main programs include:
English Tutoring Program
Our English Tutoring Program focuses on building strong foundational and academic English skills in a supportive, one-on-one learning environment.
Each session is typically 60 minutes and may include:

Reading comprehension using grade-appropriate texts
-
Vocabulary development and usage
-

The Book Reading Program aims to develop reading fluency, comprehension, and critical thinking skills through guided reading.
Each session may include:

Reading aloud with tutor support
-
Comprehension questions (both verbal and written)
-
Vocabulary exploration from the text
-
Discussion of themes, characters, and personal connections
-
Follow-up activities such as summaries or creative responses
This program helps students build confidence in reading while encouraging a deeper engagement with texts.

Lessons are adapted for beginners to intermediate learners, with a strong focus on making students feel comfortable using Korean in everyday contexts.
Program Approach
-
All classes are held once per week (60 minutes) via Google Meet
-
Sessions are conducted one-on-one or in small groups
-
Students are matched with trained volunteers based on their level and needs
-
Tutors prepare materials weekly and adjust lessons based on progress
-
A level check is conducted in the first session to personalize learning
-
Periodic progress updates may be shared with families
Our goal is to create a consistent, engaging, and supportive learning environment where students can grow academically while feeling seen, supported, and connected.
